Christians; how do you feel about "Closer to God" ?
People usually refer to this song as "that f***-you-like-an-animal song", and I find that an unfair label. Yes it’s got the line in it, but there’s so much more to the song than just that. It’s degrading. It would be like calling Christianity "that Jesus cult" and ignoring everything else about Christianity.

To understand the song completely you need to know the context. "The Downward Spiral" tells the sad tale of a man aptly named Mr. Self Destruct as he falls prey to depression, going into his own downward spiral that eventually leads to suicide. He tries to find meaning to his life and the world around him, but nothing works. Some of the routes he tries and ideas he questions are rampant abuse of Authority (cops), Religion, sex, finding God, Guns, Drugs, Self-inflicted Injuries, Masochism, (I think he tries homosexuality but I could be wrong), a female companion. Nothing works.

Finally he realizes the only way to fix his life is to put the gun up to his head and pull the trigger. A lifetime of screwing things up fixed. And everything is blue.

.. My point is "Closer" is a chapter in this man’s self-destruction, and not just some cheezy line horny frat-boys use at mixers. I would still like to know your thoughts on the song.

Wow.
I love that song, I wish I’d known the context before.

Heartbreaking…in a really hot, fingers in the air, moshpits and leather kinda way.

Lookout, The
Lookout, The (2007)

IMDB rating: 7.40

Plot: An admired high school hockey player (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) with a bright future foolishly takes a drive in the night with his girl friend and two other friends with his headlights off with devastating results. The former athlete is left with a brain injury that prevents him from remembering many things for extended periods of time. To compensate, he keeps notes in a small notebook to aid him in remembering what he is to do. He also lives with a blind friend (Jeff Daniels) who aids him. Obviously, with the mental incapacitation, he is unable to have meaningful work. Thus he works as a night cleaning man in a bank. It is there he comes under the scrutiny of a gang planning to rob the bank. The leader (Matthew Goode) befriends him and gets him involved with a young woman (Isla Fisher) who further reels him in. After they get close and after reeling him in with his own failures, the bank plan unfolds. Confused but wanting to escape his current existence, he initially goes along with the scheme. After realizing he is being used, he attempts to stop the robbery, which of course immediately goes awry. Bruce McGill and Alberta Watson also co-star as the young man’s parents, who still search for the person that was there before the tragic crash.

Directors: Frank Scott

Actors: Gordon-Levitt Joseph,Daniels Jeff,Goode Matthew,McGill Bruce,Di Zio Sergio,Huband David,Dunham Greg,Kelly Morgan,Berg Aaron,Crime,Drama,Thriller,

Good idea for a story, yes or no. Contains gay material. Very long.?
It’s at an all-boys school.

It starts with this guy named Xavier, who is obsessed with a boy named Danton. He stalks him, takes his picture without him knowing, leaves a river of anonymous notes in his locker, and watches him through the window at home. Danton is thoroughly creeped out, but does not say anything until he is home alone one day and he notices things that point to someone having been in the house (all his drawers had been looked through but nothing taken, the window open, etc.)

He tells his brother who is the same age as him, and his brother tells their best friend, and the two of them decide they’ll find out who this guy is and stop him. They do find Xavier, beat him to a nub, and threaten his life.

The next day, the entire school knows about what happened. Immediately, some students are concerned for "poor Xavier" who was innocent and victimized, and some students are taken by Luke (Danton’s brother) and William’s ( their friend) action.

When Xavier does not stop talking about his obsession with Danton, some of the other boys kind of join him. This is where it loses some of it’s sexuality, because it becomes more of a principal than a human fixation. Danton represents innocence, sweetness, almost perfection, and the boys, after listening to Xavier, see that and so many other things that they become obsessed with as well for so many reasons, only some of them sexual.

When the obsession becomes stronger and Danton begins finding more notes in his locker, begins noticing people staring at him, he gets scared and more people join Luke and William in trying to stop the "freaks".

It slowly escalates, and finally, there’s an attempt by a few of the obsessives to kidnap Danton. This causes an uproar. The students are suddenly frantic. Those obsessed with Danton (or the idea of having/obtaining Danton) have to show up to his house, tap on the bathroom window while he’s taking showers, etc. Those who are hell-bent on protecting Danton follow him around, buy his lunch, and are all around on the lookout.

It gets extremely violent as they set out to destroy each other, to stop the other "side". Luke gets shot, not killed, just shot in the arm. There are stabbings. Rapes. Three selective deaths throughout the story. All associated with gang violence by the police.

There’s a theme of the adults in the story being very uninvolved.

There is a scene where Xavier is talking about how he never wanted it to be like this, how everybody is greedy and evil and all he ever did was love Danton.

Then there are Luke and William, who were concerned for Danton, and are baffled by those who are also "concerned" because the others seem more interested in hurting "freaks" like the ones obsessed with Danton.

It strays from actual Danton, but never /really/ does because everything is kind of motivated by him.

After Luke got shot, it all started to unravel. More than half the student body was directly involved in this, and the rest knew exactly what was going on. Kids were genuinely afraid to come to school because of all the violence and terror. Of the three deaths, one was of an obsessive, one was of a protector, and one was of this innocent guy who went to school and said the wrong thing.

It ends with the very disturbed Xavier bringing a gun, killing Danton, Luke, wounding William, killing one of the higher-ups of the obsessives, and then killing himself to "end the madness".

At the VERY end, the adults in the story, who had been extremely absent, are seemingly clueless to everything (including the deaths) and are asking the kids to sit down and do some schoolwork. It’s the first time that there’s a scene in the classroom.

I really like the idea. Please please write it and maybe I could read some of it? Please?

Sorry… i am not that patient… try to cut short ur posts from here on… it would be easier for u and for us…
Yesh16 | Feb 08, 2010

I think it could be very interesting, if you wrote it well enough to make it seem plausible. You would also have to do lots of planning with regard to structure, imagery, themes, characters and so on.

I would read it!

Good luck!
Lyster | Feb 08, 2010

not bad.
has a bit of a manga theme to it though,
particularly with it’s revolving mostly around school/home
and having a small group of friends.

the plot seems a little weak here and there, but other than that it looks like a decent story.

for some reason some story’s become so much better when visually depicted.
and so personally i think it would make a better graphic novel than a plain novel.
so maybe you might have some one help you visualize the charters in the story.

Do You Think This Is A Good Way To Make Up With My Friend?
My best friend of 12 years and I had a spat last year before school got out for the summer. We haven’t spoken since. I’m really starting to miss her. And since we are HUUUUGE Potter-dorks, I decided to hand-copy the Hogwarts Acceptance Letter and send it to her, along with a little note telling her to call me. Okay, I drew out the Hogwarts Seal and I stained the paper to make it look like parchment, I spent a little over 4 hours altogether on this project. Do you think that this is a good idea? I haven’t sent it off yet, but I plan to send it today. Please tell me your opinions, I’m having a chicken-out moment.

That sounds so sweet!!! You are such a great friend! please do it and don’t chicken out! I really hope it all works out! :) )

I am Legend, Cloverfield, In the valley of Elah and The assassination of Jesse James?
i would be glad to hear your reviews or opinions on them. Give stars out of 5 if you will thank you.
I just bought the films today on DVD but I havent seen them yet

I Am Legend – 2 stars, ok at points, drifts into dull tedious thriller, with an ending that has nothing from the elements the film sets up, and poor CGI.

Cloverfield – 4 stars, whilst not being perfect the film is definitely tense and well made, funny, terrifying and gripping from the first time an attack occurs until the final shots and credits.

In The Valley Of Elah – 2 stars, what could have been an interesting drama/thriller becomes a human drama where none of the characters have much in the way of connectivity with the audience, and you don’t really care about what happened to the son in the main plot.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford – 5 stars, whilst a long film, it’s 2 hours 40 and you definitely feel it, and the title tells you what happens, the film has amazing cinematography, perfect acting by Sam Rockwell, Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck, beautiful music, and is truly a masterpiece in film making.

Andrew J | Feb 13, 2009

okay
i am lengend…i say its kinda good, 3 out of five
cloverfield in my opinion sucked
and the other two i haven’t seen
I love Taylor D. Lautner | Feb 13, 2009

I Am Legend-*****
Cloverfield-****
I have not seen the other 2 but they are in my Netflix queue to see soon
Lori S | Feb 13, 2009

The Assasination Of Jesse james is by far the best out of these. it is fantastic. the music is by Nick cave and is great, and brad pitt and casey affleck are really really good as jesse James and Bob Ford, especially affleck (proving he’s far superior to his brother in the acting stakes)
Cloverfield i just saw last night. Quite good, not amazing, 3 out of 5.
I am legend is 3/5 for me too.
sorry, havent seen the other one!
Clairey | Feb 13, 2009

The Assassination drags out in areas, but it good overall.

I Am Legend was a poor attempt at their goal. Cloverfield was worse.

Elah was probably my favourite of the bunch. It’s nowhere near as good as Tommy Lee’s other recent movies though. If you haven’t already seen them, I would recommend you pick up No Country For Old Men and The Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada (I feel this is better than No Country, but apparently I’m the minority).
Eighty-Four | Feb 13, 2009

I’ve only seen I am Legend and Cloverfield.
For those, I would give I am Legend 4/5
and Cloverfield 4/5
Abi R | Feb 13, 2009

I am legen- 5 stars, But I love GSD’s
Assassination of Jesse J- 41/2 stars i like true western stories
Cloverfield-maybe 1 star i would actually say 1/2 a star
In the Valley of Elah-31/2 stars

But take in to consideration i have different taste in movies then alot of people
laci | Feb 13, 2009

I would rate them:

The Asassination of Jesse James 4/5
Cloverfield 2/5
In the Valley of Elah 3/5
I am Legend 2/5

The music and photography in Jesse James is great!
Blade Runner | Feb 13, 2009

I just watched Cloverfield out of them; I say it’s worth its money, but I really didn’t like the final part, especially the Deus Ex Machina they use with Lily; if the writing would be better she would’ve ended up toast AND we would’ve known about it.

8/10 the first two parts and the very end, 4/10 the part after they rescue Beth.

This or that (baby girl names)?
Daisey Elisabeth or Darcy Elisabeth?
Celia Ruth or Cecelia Ruth
Cara Madeleine or Clara Madeleine
Ava Katherine or Anna Katherine?

Also, please explain your choices

Daisey Elisabeth – because I don’t like Darcy

Cecilia Ruth – because Celia reminds me Celiac disease.

Cara Madeleine – well, I love both to be honest. I supposed Cara has more of a modern feel to it I guess? But both are lovely.

Anna Katherine – I LOVE both but Ava is extremely popular right now. Anna is too of course, but not as much as Ava.

All of them are great names, really! :-)

Cecelia Ruth, but I prefer Cecile Ruth. Cecelia’s just as good though.
Clara Madeleine because it sounds softer.
Ava Catherine because it flows better than Anna.

Take the Shahada again and believe it in your heart. Listen to the Qur’an. Sharia is human made, the Qur’an isn’t.

I converted to Islam a few years ago. I became a Muslim when I realized these things

These are scientific proofs. Please go to the link below and take a look

and this link also

Islam is the same religion that Abraham(pbuh), Moses(pbuh), Jesus(pbuh), Muhammad(pbuh) and all the other prophets preached. The word Islam in Arabic means submission to the will of God and that is what all the prophets did.

God sent many messengers to Adam’s(pbuh) descendants to let us know that we should worship none but God alone and to submit our will to God but people kept changing their message.

The Holy Quran says this about the Trinity

[4:171] O people of the scripture, do not transgress the limits of your religion, and do not say about GOD except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was a messenger of GOD, and His word that He had sent to Mary, and a revelation from Him. Therefore, you shall believe in GOD and His messengers. You shall not say, "Trinity." You shall refrain from this for your own good. GOD is only one god. Be He glorified; He is much too glorious to have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. GOD suffices as Lord and Master.

[5:73] Pagans indeed are those who say that GOD is a third of a trinity. There is no god except the one god. Unless they refrain from saying this, those who disbelieve among them will incur a painful retribution.

[5:116] GOD will say, "O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, `Make me and my mother idols beside GOD?’ " He will say, "Be You glorified. I could not utter what was not right. Had I said it, You already would have known it. You know my thoughts, and I do not know Your thoughts. You know all the secrets.

So if Christians believe in the trinity, they are ploytheistic.

According to the Qur’an, Jesus(pbuh) was born miraculously by the will of God without a father. His mother is regarded as a chaste and virtuous woman and is a highly respected figure in Islam. The Qur’an states that Jesus was the result of a virgin birth. If God says it will happen, it will. For Muslims Mary is a symbol of submission to God and piety.

Moses, Abraham, and Jesus(Peace be upon them all) brought Islam but people changed it and forgot it. The Bible was the word of God until people changed it. Today there are more than one thousand different Bibles. Why do you think there are so many different versions of it?
The Quran is in it’s Original form. It has never been changed. There are different translations of the Quran but there is only one version and that is the original form. That is why it must be recited in it’s original language so that it doesn’t change.

The word Islam in Arabic means submission to the will of God and thats what Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad(Peace be upon them all) did. God sent them to let the world know that they should worship none but God himself.

Christians don’t follow Jesus(pbuh) the way he said. No where in the Bible does Jesus say that he’s God and to worship him but thats what Christians do. When Jesus(pbuh) was praying, was he praying to himself?

Please go to the link below and watch this debate between the Muslim scholar Sheikh Ahmad Deedat and the Christian reverend Eric Bock debate on the topic "is Jesus God?" You will see that no where in the Bible does Jesus(pbuh) say that he is God. It doesn’t say that anywhere in any version of the Bible. Please watch by going to this link

Understand that the word Muslim means someone who submits his/her will to God

.
Go to this link below and watch this debate with the Muslim scholar Ahmad Deedat proving to everyone that Jesus(pbuh) said in the Bible that prophet Muhammad(pbuh) will come.

Also Skip Estes who is now Yusuf Estes used to be a Christian minister in the U.S. before he converted to Islam. He became a Muslim when he tried to convert someone else to Christianity. He is known worldwide for his lectures. Please go to the link below to watch him tell his story of why he became a Muslim. It’s very interesting.

your gonna have to click on part 2 when part 1 is over and so on.

Our motto is "There is none worthy of worship except God"

Quran [2:112] Indeed, those who submit themselves absolutely to GOD alone,
while leading a righteous life, will receive their recompense from their
Lord; they have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.

Islam is not a name. Islam means Submission to God alone. Muslim is an Arabic word that refers to the person who Submits to God alone. Submission involves an active daily process of remembering and worshiping God alone.
